Last week I wrote a diary lamenting the fact that it appeared the democrats were once again going to be bested by the republicans. I said at the end of the diary: "The one thing I think would give me hope is for one democrat in a position of power to bust the republicans square in the mouth so hard that it would buckle of knees of the GOP. So far all I've heard amounts to little more than whining."
Well yesterday I got my wish when President Clinton put a verbal butt whipping on Wallace and Fox News. It's still a little too early to see if other democrats will pick up where he left off, or if the democrats will sit back and say they thought Clinton was out of line. But the bottom line is Clinton went into their house, pulled down their pants and spanked them soundly. Again, it's still too early to tell if it did any good but for me it's given me hope, and will be the standard by which all other democrats will be judged.
Yes, all the right wing blogs and news channels are talking about Clinton "Losing it," but what else should we expect from them? They've been allowed to bully for far too long and if "Losing it" is what it's going to take to stop the GOP hate machine then do it. Maybe we have been too nice for too long. Maybe we have been too diplomatic in our approach. Maybe we have been using words like "Misled" instead of "Lied" too much. Maybe we should respond to a lie by saying "You're full of shit!" and then telling the truth without letting them interrupt or change the subject. Maybe we should ignore all the polls that say people don't like the negative (which I think are full of shit). The republicans have been using them for years and have won. What can we lose.
I have watched that interview at least 8 times and I draw more energy from it every time I watch it. I can't wait to get out there and get in the faces of the GOP, and dare them to stop me. We do that and I believe we'll win. Remember that bullies are basically cowards. And even if we don't win I think we'll feel a whole lot better for trying.
