In checking the polls and watching news program after program say democrats are going to take the house but the senate will be close, I've come to the conclusion it really doesn't matter.
I think it's obvious to anyone with one third the mental capacity of lint and above that there has been a war going on within the republican party for control of their agenda. The neocons have had control and their actions have shown them to be other than conservative. Increased spending and bigger government are the two largest complaints from traditional conservatives, but there are too few of them to make much of a difference. They were threatened that they would have a primary by the likes of Tom Delay if they swayed from the white house talking points.
The democrats taking control of the house will be significant in that house republicans are the nastiest and most extreme. They approved virtually all of Bush's agenda without changing a thing. With the dems in control that agenda will change. We really need to take control of the house and by a good margin.
The senate is a different story. This is where the more moderate republicans reside but have also been stifled. However we don't need control to move our agenda because with the senate with republicans in control of a one seat advantage, which looks like the case, or a tie, the republicans will have to work with democrats. It will also free up those moderate republicans to make votes that go against Bush in areas like stem cell research, education, etc.
I don't claim to be an expert on this and I'm sure others will have a different view. However, I do believe democrats will have a victory in the senate by virtue of the fact that we will have gained more seats.
